New Delhi: Microsoft has announced that it will discontinue support for Microsoft Office apps on Windows 10 devices once the operating system reaches its end of support on October 14, 2025. To continue using Microsoft 365 apps without any issues, users will need to upgrade to Windows 11, the company stated on Tuesday Microsoft has announced that Microsoft 365 apps will no longer be supported on Windows 10 devices after October 14, 2025. To continue using Microsoft 365 applications, users will need to upgrade to Windows 11. This change also affects standalone Office versions, including Office 2024, Office 2021, Office 2019, and Office 2016, which will no longer receive updates or technical support on Windows 10 devices. Although the applications will continue to function after the support cutoff, Microsoft has warned that users may experience performance and reliability issues. In a separate support document, the company strongly recommended upgrading to Windows 11 to avoid these potential problems over time. What’s preventing users from upgrading to Windows 11? One of the main challenges to adopting Windows 11 has been Microsoft’s strict hardware requirements, especially the need for TPM (Trusted Platform Module) 2.0. This feature, which Microsoft says helps protect against tampering and cyberattacks, is a non-negotiable requirement for installing Windows 11. Many users with older hardware have struggled to meet this requirement, leading to the development of workarounds to bypass it. Microsoft after understanding the challenges is offering some flexibility for users who either cannot or choose not to upgrade. Home users can extend their use of Windows 10 for an additional year by purchasing Extended Security Updates (ESU) for 30 dollars. Certain enterprise and specialized systems, like those using Long-Term Servicing Branch (LTSB) and Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) editions, will continue to receive updates even after the October 2025 deadline. Why Upgrade to Windows 11 While users can continue using their Windows 10 PCs and Office apps after support ends they will no longer receive security updates. This could increase their vulnerability over time. Microsoft has also reminded users that the free upgrade to Windows 11 is still available as long as their devices meet the minimum system requirements. Margaret Farmer, a Microsoft representative, stressed the importance of checking that your computer meets these requirements for the update. Why Users Need to Upgrade Soon The deadline is fast approaching for the millions still using Windows 10. While the operating system remains widely used, Microsoft’s decision to stop supporting Office apps gives users even more reason to make the switch. For those who rely on Microsoft 365 or other Office products, upgrading sooner rather than later is becoming increasingly important.

New Delhi: X (formerly Twitter) has introduced new labels for parody and satire accounts, a move announced on Friday. This initiative is designed to reduce impersonation and improve content transparency on the platform. The newly introduced ‘Parody Account’ label will appear on the profiles and posts of such accounts. This will help improve content transparency and minimize impersonation. X Introduces New Parody Account Labels The official X Safety account recently shared details about the update and revealed that the “Parody Account” label will now appear beneath a user’s profile and on their posts. This new feature aims to help users easily identify parody accounts, avoid confusion, and make it clear that these accounts are not connected to the individuals or organizations they are satirizing. The microblogging platform shared details of the new feature via its official safety account, explaining that the labels follow its Parody, Commentary, and Fan (PCF) guidelines. These rules allow accounts to create satire and commentary while making sure their content is clearly marked, avoiding confusion and ensuring users don’t mistake them for official accounts. Musk has been a strong supporter of such measures. Back in 2022, Musk stressed the importance of parody accounts clearly stating “parody” in their account name, rather than just in their bio. How to Apply the Parody Account Label: – Go to Settings and Privacy in your X account. – Navigate to Your Account > Account Information. – Select the “Parody, Commentary, and Fan Account” label. If you come across any inauthentic or impersonating accounts, you can report them directly through the app or the Help Centre.

PM Modi AI Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Summit in France from February 10 to 11, said French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday.  While addressing the 30th Conference of Ambassadors, President Macron said, “France will be hosting the AI Summit on February 10-11. A summit for action, as we call it. This summit will allow for an international conversation on AI. There will be Prime Minister Modi, who will move up to a major visit in our country as we want to forge a dialogue with all powers on AI.” The French President emphasised the importance of AI as a global conversation, stating that it will include countries such as the US, China, and India, as well as, the countries from the Gulf, which have significant roles in developing and regulating AI technologies. During a press briefing about the summit, the French Presidency announced that 90 countries, including India, had been invited to participate. “We have invited India and are working very closely with India in the run-up to the summit. Misinformation and misuse of AI are themes that will be addressed,” the French Presidency said. “India is a very important country, particularly in terms of its potential to make a concrete impact on people’s lives. We look forward to India’s contributions to the summit’s various teams,” it added. The summit, to be hosted by France at the Grand Palais in Paris, will convene Heads of State and government, leaders of international organisations, CEOs from large and small companies, representatives from academia, NGOs, artists, and members of civil society. The event will focus on five key themes: public interest in AI, the future of work, innovation and culture, trust in AI, and global AI governance. The French Presidency further highlighted the importance of addressing issues related to disinformation and the misuse of AI, which are central topics for the summit’s discussions. On February 10, various stakeholders, including heads of state and government representatives, will participate in multiple sessions. Macron will host a formal dinner for heads of state and other VIPs that evening. On February 11, the summit will feature a dedicated leaders’ session exclusively for heads of state.
