WhatsApp APK Scam: A cyber fraud case has surfaced in Delhi, where a chartered accountant was duped after downloading a malicious file sent to her on WhatsApp. The scammers claimed they would help increase her credit card limit. However, shortly after installing the file, her mobile phone was compromised. According to an NDTV report, within minutes, the fraudsters allegedly used her Kotak Mahindra Bank credit card to carry out online transactions worth Rs 75,694.  WhatsApp APK scam hits CA: Fake bank app, fake SIM Investigators found that the gang members had earlier worked at a credit card company, which gave them access to customer data. They used this information to create a fake Kotak Mahindra Bank app in the form of a malicious APK file. They convinced people to download the file by promising to “update” or “increase” their credit card limit. After victims installed the file sent via WhatsApp, the fraudsters gained complete access to their phones and credit card details. Cyber police trace scam to Faridabad, arrest four accused  After an FIR was registered on February 4, the cyber police launched a special operation. Using technical analysis and location tracking, they traced the delivery of the purchased items to Lakkarpur village in Surajkund, Faridabad. The police arrested four people and seized four mobile phones. The accused have been identified as Abhishek Kumar Jha (24), Ashish Kumar Ojha (23), Vivek Kumar alias Monu (37), and Ikraar (23). All four have been arrested, and further investigation is ongoing.  Stop Cyber Fraud: Tips to Stay Secure Online Tip 1: Always think before you click on links or download files from unknown sources. Google Revenge Porn Protection: The internet can quickly spread private information, and non-consensual explicit images still circulate easily. To fight this, the tech giant Google is making it easier to tackle deepfakes and revenge porn by introducing new tools and policies to identify and remove manipulated media and content shared without consent. While the update doesn’t fully solve the broader problem, it simplifies one important step: removing harmful links. Users can now request the removal of explicit images directly from Google Search by clicking the three-dot menu on an image, selecting “Remove result,” and choosing “It shows a sexual image of me.” Options are also available for content involving minors or sensitive personal information. Multiple images can be submitted in a single request, which is useful given how widely such content can spread. To keep content removed, Google is rolling out proactive safeguards. Users can opt in to filters that block similar explicit results from appearing in future searches. After submitting a request, links to expert organizations provide emotional and legal support. EPFO New App Features: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is developing a new mobile application that will allow its 8 crore members to withdraw their EPF balance directly into their bank accounts using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). As per reports, a certain portion of the EPF balance will be frozen, while a large share will be available for withdrawal through the UPI gateway, along with access to other services such as passbook balance details. The move is part of EPFO’s EPFO 3.0 upgrade and aims to make PF access as simple as using a banking app, with an instant, paperless, and fully digital withdrawal process. Currently, salaried employees use either the Universal Account Number (UAN) portal or the UMANG app to access their EPF accounts and related services. Meanwhile, while the new EPFO app will serve as the primary platform for UPI-based withdrawals, existing services such as the EPFO Unified Member Portal and the UMANG app will continue to operate for other functions. EPFO New App: Features The new facility allows EPFO members to transfer eligible funds to their linked bank accounts almost instantly using their UPI PIN, bypassing the traditional claim process that can take several days. Through the new app, subscribers will be able to view the eligible EPF balance available for transfer to their seeded bank accounts directly within the mobile application. This enables members to access their EPF money within three days for purposes such as illness, education, marriage, and housing. Initial discussions suggest a withdrawal limit of Rs 25,000 per transaction for UPI-based transfers.
