However, WhatsApp has fixed a security bug in its app for iPhones and Macs that hackers used to access specific users’ devices. New Delhi: US researchers have developed a new and highly effective generative artificial intelligence (AI) tool to rapidly detect exposure to the H5N1 virus — behind avian influenza or “bird flu”, and bolster national surveillance as the virus continues to spread in other animals.  The study, published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases, revealed that the AI tool quickly scans notes in electronic medical records and identifies high-risk patients who may have been infected with H5N1 bird flu. “This study shows how generative AI can fill a critical gap in our public health infrastructure by detecting high-risk patients that would otherwise go unnoticed,” said corresponding author Katherine E. Goodman, Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine Add Zee News as a Preferred Source “With H5N1 continuing to circulate in animals, our biggest danger nationwide is that we don’t know what we don’t know. Because we are not tracking how many symptomatic patients have potential bird flu exposures, and how many of those patients are being tested, infections could be going undetected. Using a generative AI large language model, the research team analysed 13,494 visits in hospital emergency departments from adult patients in urban, suburban, and rural areas in 2024. These patients all had acute respiratory illness (such as cough, fever, congestion) or conjunctivitis — symptoms consistent with early H5N1 infections. The goal was to assess how well generative AI could find high-risk patients who may have been overlooked at the time of initial treatment. Scanning all of the emergency department notes, the model flagged 76 because they mentioned a high-risk exposure for bird flu, such as working as a butcher or at a farm with livestock, like chickens or cows. After a brief review by research staff, 14 patients were confirmed to have had recent, relevant exposure to animals known to carry H5N1, including poultry, wild birds, and livestock. These patients were not tested specifically for H5N1, so their potential bird-flu infections were not confirmed, but the model worked to find those “needle in a haystack” cases among thousands of patients treated for seasonal flu and other routine respiratory illnesses.

This breach not only leaked private and sensitive data but also led to the creation of disturbing online maps and games that harassed women across the United States. The leaked data popped up on Google Maps, where thousands of pins revealed where Tea users lived or worked. Google later took down the maps, saying they violated its harassment policies. But the damage had already been done, as per the BBC report. This data breach has now escalated legally, with over 10 women filing lawsuits against Tea, accusing the company of negligence in safeguarding their data. Reports suggest the compromised data belonged to users registered before February 2024. Tea Dating-Advice App: From Data Breach to Digital Harassment In a shocking turn, leaked data from the Tea app was turned into an online game where users rated women’s selfies based on appearance. The disturbing trend quickly gained traction, and within three weeks, over 12,000 posts about the app surfaced on 4chan. The incident highlights how rapidly stolen data can spread online and be misused against women. New Delhi: OpenAI on Monday announced the launch of the ‘OpenAI Learning Accelerator’, an India-first initiative aimed at empowering teachers and educators with artificial intelligence tools. The programme will accelerate research, expand access, and provide training on AI in education across the country. The initiative was unveiled as part of the pre-events leading up to India’s AI Action Summit 2026. OpenAI said India, home to the largest student population using ChatGPT globally, is uniquely positioned to lead in AI-enabled education. Millions of Indian students already use ChatGPT for homework help, exam preparation, and exploring new ideas. Through the Learning Accelerator, OpenAI will partner with leading institutions including IIT Madras and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). IIT Madras has signed a research collaboration with OpenAI, backed by $500,000 in funding, to study how AI can improve learning outcomes and innovative teaching methods. Gupta, formerly Managing Director of Coursera for the region, will lead efforts to expand access and work with schools, universities, and government bodies to transform education with AI. The launch comes on the back of OpenAI’s broader expansion in India, including its upcoming New Delhi office, an India-specific ChatGPT Go subscription at Rs 399 per month, enhanced Indic language support in GPT-5, and nationwide AI literacy programmes in partnership with the Ministry of Electronics and IT. IIT Madras Director Dr. Kamakoti Veezhinathan and AICTE Chairman Prof. T.G. Sitharam welcomed the collaboration, saying it would strengthen India’s AI-driven education ecosystem and prepare the next generation of students and educators.
