HP Inc. has announced that it plans to cut between 4,000 and 6,000 jobs globally by fiscal 2028 as part of a larger effort to streamline its operations and increase its use of artificial intelligence. The company said the move will help speed up product development, improve customer service and boost overall productivity. Following the announcement, HP’s shares dropped 5.5 per cent in extended trading. HP CEO Enrique Lores said during a media briefing that employees working in product development, internal operations and customer support will be affected by the layoffs. He added that the cost-cutting plan is expected to generate about $1 billion in gross run-rate savings over the next three years. Earlier this year, HP had already laid off more than 2,000 employees as part of an ongoing restructuring plan. The company said the layoffs are part of its efforts to become leaner and reduce unnecessary bureaucracy. This would mark the largest round of corporate job cuts in Amazon’s history. In November, 20 tech companies had already laid off 4,545 workers. Synopsys, a major chip-design software company, carried out the biggest layoffs this month by cutting about 2,000 jobs, roughly 10 per cent of its workforce. A regulatory filing showed that the company reduced its staff to redirect investment toward new growth opportunities. So far in 2025, as many as 237 tech companies have laid off more than 1.1 million employees.

Popular video conferencing service Google Meet suffered a major service outage for several users in India on Wednesday. At 12:20 pm, outage monitoring platform Downdetector had noted at least 1,455 reports, mostly related to joining online meetings. The outage is a big blow to many remote workers and institutions, as many were forced to report connection failures and issues with the company’s servers, mainly when trying to join sessions via the Google Meet website. Users Vent Frustration On Social Media The sudden outage set off a storm of activity on social media platform X, with many users sharing their frustrations, some with dark humour at their sudden freedom from work. Why every big tech is going down this month?” The problem was organisational in nature, according to reports. Google later attributed that incident to a “recent change in content edge cache” that required its engineers to reverse the change to resolve the problem.  Greater Tech Instability: The Google Meet issues come just one week since an outage at the web-infrastructure firm Cloudflare took down several prominent global websites, including X, Canva, and ChatGPT. Sanchar Saathi Portal: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) announced on Tuesday that its digital safety initiative, Sanchar Saathi, has enabled the recovery of more than 50,000 lost and stolen mobile handsets across India in October this year. “This record milestone reflects unwavering commitment to secure citizens’ digital assets and public trust in technology-driven governance. The overall recovery nationwide has also crossed the 7 lakh milestone,” according to an official statement. Karnataka and Telangana have emerged as top-performing states, each crossing 1 lakh recoveries, Maharashtra follows with over 80,000. The monthly recoveries of lost and stolen mobile phones have surged by 47 per cent from June to October 2025, underlining the system’s growing efficiency and reach. With the help of this system, more than one handset is being recovered every minute across the country, the statement said. New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has taken major action against spam and fraud in the telecom sector, disconnecting more than 21 lakh mobile numbers and blacklisting around one lakh entities over the past year, Ministry of Communications said on Monday. These actions were based on complaints filed by citizens, and the Authority has now urged people to continue reporting spam through the TRAI DND App to stop misuse of telecom services at the source. According to TRAI, many users believe that blocking unwanted numbers on their phones is enough. However, blocking only hides the number on an individual device and does not stop the scammer from targeting others. When citizens report spam calls or messages through the official TRAI DND App, telecom service providers are able to trace the source and permanently disconnect numbers used for fraud or unsolicited communication. Add Zee News as a Preferred Source TRAI highlighted that the large-scale action taken in the last year was made possible only because lakhs of citizens used the DND App and reported suspicious calls and messages. The Authority said that public participation is essential in building a safe and trustworthy telecom ecosystem. TRAI has advised people to download the TRAI DND App from official app stores and report spam instead of simply blocking numbers. The regulator also reminded users not to share personal or banking details over calls, messages, or social media, and to disconnect immediately if they receive threatening or suspicious communication. Cases of cyber fraud should be reported to the National Cybercrime Helpline (1930) or through the cybercrime.gov.in portal. Users can also report telecom-related fraud attempts through Sanchar Saathi’s “Chakshu” feature. Emphasising its commitment to protect citizens — especially senior citizens, women, and digitally inexperienced users — TRAI urged the public to stay alert, share the advisory, and promptly report any suspicious communication. The Authority said that continued reporting, along with technology-driven monitoring and enforcement, is key to stopping spam and fraud at the source.
