New Delhi: India entered amongst top six countries globally in 6G patent filing, said Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, the Minister of State for Communications at the BHARAT 6G 2025 conference. The country has sanctioned over Rs 300 crore (USD 35.14 million) for over 111 research projects, marking a significant milestone in pursuing 6G technology. “6G will operate on TeraHertz frequency bands, enabling data rates up to one terabit per second, 100 times faster than 5G,” the minister added. According to a release by the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), the adoption of 6G technology will “create entirely new industries and revolutionise existing ones” and is expected to contribute Rs  85,37,000 crore (USD 1 trillion) to India’s economy by 2035. The minister, during the conference, showed confidence in India’s vast talent pool and emphasised that “there is no reason the country should not lead in 6G.” “He also noted that indigenous 6G development will ensure secure communications, developed and managed within India, further strengthening the nation’s position in the global technology landscape.” Additionally, this year’s Convergence India & 10th Smart Cities India Expo features advancements in 5G & 6G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, IoT, Cybersecurity, Augmented & Virtual Reality (AR/VR), Embedded Tech, Fintech, Urban Mobility, and Smart City Solutions. Meanwhile, during the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) telecom industry leaders discussed India’s tremendous opportunity in advancing 6G technology at the 8th Edition of Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) 2024. And the event saw the inauguration of International 6G Symposium, launch of Telecom Smart Cities Index by OpenSignal and Workshop with Academicians of 5G Test Labs among other major activities.

Apple New Features: Apple has unveiled a range of new accessibility features for individuals with disabilities as it celebrated 40 years of innovation in accessible technology. These features will be integrated across its entire product lineup, including the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro. The new accessibility tools will be part of the upcoming iOS 19 and macOS 16 updates, which are expected to be previewed during WWDC 2025. Notably, the developer conference is scheduled to take place from June 9 to June 13 at Apple Park in California.  Apple New Features For Individuals With Disabilities  Accessibility Nutrition Labels on the App Store A new section is coming to App Store listings that highlights an app’s accessibility features before download. These labels will help users determine if an app meets their specific accessibility needs. Features such as VoiceOver, Voice Control, Larger Text, Sufficient Contrast, Reduced Motion, captions, and more will be clearly indicated. Braille Experience Apple is introducing a built-in Braille app for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro. This app allows users to take notes in braille, perform calculations using Nemeth Braille, access BRF (Braille Ready Format) files, and more—offering a complete standalone braille experience. Accessibility Reader Designed to support users with diverse reading needs, the new Accessibility Reader is a system-wide reading mode available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro. It allows users to customize font, color, and spacing, and includes Spoken Content for an enhanced reading experience. Personal Voice Feature Apple has upgraded its Personal Voice feature with advanced on-device AI and machine learning, allowing users to create a more natural and personalized voice in under a minute. Now, only 10 recorded phrases are required to complete the setup, making the process quicker and more accessible for users with speech impairments.  Live Captions on Apple Watch:  WatchOS 12 will likely include this new Apple Watch feature, empowering users with hearing impairments with Live Listen controls. This feature will directly use the iPhone’s microphone to play content on AirPods. Users can also view Live Captions on their iPhones, and the Apple Watch will act as a remote to manage Live Listen sessions.   Vehicle Motion Cues Feature Apple is extending its Vehicle Motion Cues feature to Mac, aiming to reduce motion sickness during device use while in transit. Additionally, the animated onscreen dots—designed to help users maintain visual stability—are receiving new customization options across iPhone, iPad, and Mac, allowing for a more personalized and comfortable experience. Apple Sound Recognition Feature Apple is enhancing its existing Sound Recognition feature with a new Name Recognition capability, which alerts users when their name is called—providing greater support for those with hearing impairments. Adding further, the CarPlay is being updated to support larger text and Sound Recognition, making in-car accessibility more inclusive and friendly for the users. 

Airtel Network Issue: Telecom giant Airtel faced widespread network disruptions on May 13, leaving thousands of customers in India without signal and internet connectivity. The telecom company confirmed that there were network issues, including dropped calls and internet outages, across Tamil Nadu and parts of Kerala due to a major outage in Airtel’s mobile network services. The most severely affected cities included Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Madurai — mainly in South India and some parts of Delhi reportedly. However, the issue has now been resolved in the region. According to Downdetector, a real-time outage tracker, the platform recorded more than 8,000 reports of the Airtel network being down. The outage began around 7:00 PM and lasted for a few hours, peaking at approximately 8:45 PM. The complaints were mainly related to mobile services, with 15 per cent reporting mobile internet issues and 20 per cent reporting no signal. During the outage, multiple Airtel users expressed their concerns and dissatisfaction with the service on social media platforms.
